Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 announced – a sequel to Fold
Foldable phones are next-generation Smartphones first introduced by Samsung. Regardless of few issues on the first Galaxy Fold, Samsung has announced Fold 2 on August 5 and the features are improved than before. Fold 2 is the third foldable phone in Galaxy series after Fold and Z Flip. It will possibly release by September this year and upon release, we will provide a full phone review. But till then let’s take a look at first impressions, specifications, and expected price.
The second foldable phone on Fold Series, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will introduce a few new edge-cutting features as mentioned by Samsung on its first preview. Let’s take a look into some major specifications that Samsung might have upgraded than its predecessor.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Design and Display
The Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 adds new design and display features that were missing on previous Fold phones. The outer display on the previous phone was a little small around 4.6 inches which was fine except we couldn’t complete certain tasks. But now we get a much bigger 6.2 inches outer display. Besides the display, Samsung has upgraded many internal parts too including better camera and performance. It uses the UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass) from Z Flip that helps to make the device screen more durable and smooth to navigate. The phone looks cool when you set it up like a mini laptop.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 introduces a new hinge that can stay open from different angles. Samsung says the hinge is more powerful and uses fibers underneath to clean the dust the gets on the phone. It is also much thinner than the previous one.
Talking about the display, Samsung has removed the notch on the interior cameras and replaced it with the infinity-O display with a punch-hole camera. The screen has a refresh rate of 120Hz which is available only on few phones worldwide. The overall display is really smooth, immersive and we can expect the vibrant colors.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Cameras
Samsung hasn’t announced anything else on cameras except the punch-hole cut-out front camera on its inside display. Samsung has not provided specs on exterior cameras but we saw 3 lenses which means there will be 3 rear cameras. From our guess, the phone uses Camera sensors from Galaxy S20 Plus with 12MP primary sensor following 12MP ultra-wide sensor with 3x optical zoom. Given the rumors that Samsung is using a 108MP camera on Galaxy Z Fold 2, we will only know all the details once Samsung goes public with its full phone specifications.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Processor
Although we don’t exactly know about the processor Samsung is using on its Fold 2, we can expect Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, 865, or 865+. The previous Fold used Snapdragon 855 but being the 5G Smartphone our guesses point to the Snapdragon 865 processor or improved version of it. Few XDA developers have claimed the phone will support Verizon’s mmWave-based 5G technology.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Battery
Samsung puts two batteries inside its foldable phones which means we can expect the same on the new Fold 2. The double battery helps while folding and unfolding phones providing power from both sources. The first Fold phone used a 4380 mAh battery but since Fold 2 is much thinner we can expect a battery capacity of around 4000 mAh. It’s definitive that Samsung will introduce higher capacity fast charging possibly between 25W to 50W. Some rumors out also say Samsung will continue with its same previous 15W fast charging.
We can expect many other features including improved sensors, higher storage and RAM, and better performance than its previous phones.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Expected Price & Release Date
The phone is expected to have limited stock. As a result, the price will be comparatively higher than all its foldable or non-foldable phones. We believe the Galaxy Z Ford 2 will be the most expensive Samsung Smartphone. According to the GSMArena, the price for Samsung Galaxy Z Ford 2 will be around $2000 – $2500. However, Samsung officially hasn’t said anything about its price or how many units are in development.
