Listening to music is one of the most enjoyable things you can do. And, if you’re anything like me, you’re constantly looking for new music to listen to. You probably know this already, but 2021 was a pretty interesting year for music regardless of COVID-19. Hundreds of super-hit album/singles were released from different artists and musicians but only few were able to rule our heart.

Sure, we all adore Beyonce and Madonna. But, every couple of years we see new musicians making it big in the industry. After all, this is the time for Gen Z to decide who will rule! So, who is ruling the industry at the moment? That’s exactly what we will see in this post. Here are the top 10 singing sensations in 2021.

1. Billie Eilish

Everyone knows Billie Eilish and everyone loves her! Gen Z in particular is obsessed with her. She also has the most liked posts on Instagram. Eilish gave the music a makeover with her unique and quirky singing style through songs like ‘My Future’, and ‘Bad Guy’; which are just a few of many.

Her music career got a kick start with her ‘Ocean Eyes’ going viral. Later on, she released her debut album in 2019 titled ‘When We All Fall Asleep’. The album was an instant hit that quickly secured a space on the Billboard top 200.

The following year she landed the massive opportunity to create the theme songs for the famous James Bond franchise. She recorded the theme song ‘No Time To Die.’ Eilish holds 7 Grammy Awards, several Billboard Awards, and 2 Guinness Book records.

2. Selena Gomez

Selena is the queen of pop and someone who reinvented herself again and again. She had a humble beginning coming from Texas; starting her Hollywood career with the Disney show ‘Wizards of Waverly Place.’

Other than creating great music and acting in several TV shows, Gomez has also been a part of several hit movies such as ‘Monte Carlo’ and ‘Ramona and Beezus’. The actress, singer, and producer have 3 solo albums to her credit, each one getting her to the next level of popularity. Those three albums are Rare, Revival, and Stars Dance.

Selena is, without a doubt, one of the most beloved singers of this generation.

3. Jungkook

One word – BTS! Do we need to say more? The world is growing more and more obsessed with this musical band and Jungkook is a huge part of that deal. Jungkook’s original name is Jeon Jeong guk. He is the lead rapper, dancer, and vocalist of BTS (short for Bangtan Boys) – the popular South Korean band.

Jungkook is one of the younger members of the group. The other members are J-Hope, Sugar, Jin, Jimin, Rap Monster, and Kim Taehyung. He is best known for delivering uplifting performances during concerts and throwing amazing dance moves.

Not only in South Korea but he is loved in the majority of Asian countries. Almost all of the videos and songs the group has created are huge hits. But, that’s not all this young and talented star has to offer. Other than being an amazing dancer, rapper, and singer, he also has an amazing personality.

What is a little weird is that despite the band’s popularity, there’s little known about Jungkook’s personal and dating life.

4. Shawn Mendes

Like Gomez, Shawn Mendes also had a humble beginning. He didn’t come from a family of movie stars. Mendes’ claim to fame was the cover videos that he posted on Vine, the 2013 app equivalent of TikTok.

Within no time, he had millions of followers. Mendes quickly became popular for his 6-second renditions of several popular songs.

It was Andrew Gertler who discovered Shawn in 2014. Andrew got him to sign his very first single that year in June. Shawn happens to be the youngest artist (having made his debut at the age of 15) who composed his own debut album and also got his song on the Billboard Top 100.

During the beginning of his career, Mendes toured alongside several big and young artists as well as social media celebrities. He was also part of the tour alongside Austin Mahone during which he released his debut label EP.

In 2017, his performances started to sell out within 4 minutes at the Madison Square Garden. He also had two other major hits that year. Some of his biggest hits are ‘Mercy’, ‘Lost in Japan’, ‘In My blood’, and ‘Treat You Better.’

5. Ariana Grande

Born in June 1993, Ariana Grande happens to enjoy the 3rd biggest following on social media platform Instagram with a massive 264 million followers as of September 2021. With such a massive following, it’s no wonder that every single song you put out is a big hit.

Grande began her career back in 2013 and since then has come a long way. Till now she has released six albums. Her latest release was in 2020; an album titled Positions.

This singing sensation never shies away from taking a stand on major social issues like Black Lives Matter or Transgender equality. There’s a reason why she’s seen as one of the most influential celebrities in the world as often touted by magazines like Forbes and Time.

Other than that, she’s constantly doing a lot of charity work and raising funds to support social issues.

Some of her most popular songs are ‘Bang Bang’, ‘Problem’, ‘Thank You Next‘, ‘Dangerous Women’, and ‘Into You’.

6. Zara Larsson

Zara Larsson is a famous Swedish singer and songwriter in the electro-pop genre. She also won ‘Talang’, the famous Swedish reality TV show. It’s essentially the Swedish version of ‘Got Talent’. She participated in the show when she was only 10 back in 2008.

She garnered a lot of recognition after the show which also got her to seal the deal with TEN Music Group. Later in 2013, she released her debut EP titled ‘Introducing’.

Ever since she made her foray into music, Zara Larsson has released two albums and two plays that got her a lot of critical acclaim.

Her two most popular singles are Lush Life and Uncover that were a major hit, particularly in Sweden. Another album ‘So Good’ seized the 7th spot on the UK Albums Chart ever since it was released in 2017.

Zara is currently working with Epic Records, the US-based record label company and plans on releasing her 3rd album soon.

Other than being a successful musician, Zara is also a vocal feminist and social activist.

7. Adam Levine

Adam Levine is an American award-winning singer who is also a member of Maroon 5 – one of the most popular bands that gave multiple hits and several gold/platinum albums. He was born in California in 1979.

Levine was interested in music from an early age. In fact, when in high school – he formed his first band with his fellow students. They released their first album in 1997 called ‘The Fourth World’. It wasn’t until Levine left LA with his high school friend and moved to New York that he was exposed to different kinds of music including hip-hop and R&B.

In 2011, Levine became a coach/judge on The Voice, the reality singing show, thus branching out into television.

In 2012, their band released Overexposed – the studio album featuring hits such as ‘Payphone’ and ‘One More Night’. Two years later, the band gave two of their greatest hits ‘Animals’, and ‘Maps’. In 2017 they launched another album called ‘Red Pill Blues’ that contained hits like ‘Wait’, ‘What lovers do’, and ‘Girls Like You.’

8. Hailee Steinfeld

Other than being a great singer, Hailee Steinfeld is a known actress as well. She is a BAFTA nominee who got introduced to the world of music when she worked in collaboration for a soundtrack for Pitch Perfect 2.

Her performance was much appreciated. As a result, Republic Records signed a deal with her soon after.

Steinfeld’s debut single was ‘Love Myself’ which paved the way for her as a singer. Later on, she released several other songs both in collaboration and solo.

Her single ‘Starving’ also made it on the Billboard top 100. Hailee released her Extended Play in 2020 titled Half Written Story.

9. Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber was probably the youngest musician ever to have garnered the kind of fame that he did at such a young age. He was 16 when he released My Life 2.0, his debut album which got him a spot on Billboard top 200.

Ever since his popularity only grew exponentially and today he is known all over the world. It’s hard to think of anyone who hasn’t heard of him.

Some of his biggest hits include ‘Baby’, ‘I’m the One,’ and ‘Sorry’. He is also one of the most followed celebrities on Instagram.

Bieber also happens to hold 2 Grammy Awards, 20 Billboard Music Awards, several MTV Music Awards, and has so far released six albums. His latest album is called Justice which was released this year.

10. Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran is one of those musicians who know how to keep a low profile. You won’t often hear him being part of scandal or news. He is also not the most fashionable musician but his songs do come under the list of songs with the maximum number of views on YouTube.

Some of his most popular songs are ‘Perfect’ and ‘Thinking out Loud’. So far, Sheeran has released 4 albums. His latest album is called No. 6 Collaborations Project.

This British celebrity is the winner of several accolades including 4 Grammys. He also happens to be among the most streamed musicians on Spotify.
