There’s a lot that’s in the air right now; we’re in the middle of a massive cultural shift, and the world is still in flux due to the noble coronavirus. Regardless, the Music industry has been constantly working to produce more music and our favorite musicians have not failed us in our expectations. 

The year 2021 has been rewarding and we got to see tons of music videos throughout the year. But who dominated the charts and who got the most views? Although plenty of artists played their part to keep the charts busy, only few managed to get their name on the top. Adele, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa and various other artists delivered outstanding performances and managed to list themselves on the “The Best Selling Artists of 2021”. There’s one song every year by a debut artist that goes big. Driver’s License by Olivia Rodrigo took over radios and Tiktok within hours and became an internet sensation. The song was listed on hot 100 of many lists including Billboard within just a couple days of its release. The 17-year-old Olivia was soon announced the best debutant artist and rising teen musician of 2021. The music video has over 300 million views on YouTube.

Montero (Call Me by Your Name) – Lil Nas X

Lil Nas X became a pretty big deal after the success of “Old Town Road” in 2019. Montero (Call Me by Your Name) contains some explicit homosexual lyrics that some people might be sensitive to. The track name was taken from the 2017 film “Call Me by Your Name” that features the gay relationship. The music video was first displayed on a super bowl commercial in February 2021 but was officially released in March. Montero has nearly 400 million views on YouTube as of November 2021.

Thot Sh*t – Megan Thee Stallion

Can we all agree that Megan Thee Stallion is as badass as her music videos? Megan Thee Stallion, a Southern born and raised singer, has made a name for herself both in the United States and Internationally with one-after-another hit tracks. The recent release “Thot Sh*t” is no lesser. The music video has over 30 million views and counting on YouTube.

Don’t Go Yet – Camila Cabello

Camila’s Latin-tinged sound has been compared to artists such as Selena Gomez and Shakira. “Don’t Go Yet” has received a lot of compliments from critics and music lovers alike, and is a major hit on many music charts. In recent releases, she has been branching out with more acoustic vibes and Don’t Go Yet is one of those. Soft, Quiet, Good Vibes.

The Weeknd and Ariana Grande have teamed up for a remix of “Save Your Tears”, the second single from the mega-selling “After Hours”, and it’s a huge hit! The song is about making a difference, and it’s a great way to make a statement about a topic that is often covered up. The song talks about leaving the worries and negatives behind and moving towards a positive space.

Justin and The Kid Laroi’s singer and songwriter, we’re lucky to get to hear his music in the form of this new collaboration “Stay”. It’s a track about friendship, love and how it can sometimes be scary when you aren’t sure if you can trust someone and not push them away. It’s a song about loyalty and working with the people you care about so you can all stay together.

Dua Lipa released a disco dance track “Levitating” in collaboration with Dababy and the whole world got up on their feet. The song soon hit the hot 100 and is levitating back and forth on the top 10 of the year. Dua Lipa sang Levitating at Grammy Awards 2021 as well and the praises never stopped floating in the air. The R&B duo consisting of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak released their first debut single “Leave the Door Open” in March, 2021. However, they received critics that the band never anticipated. People claimed Silk Sonic as a band of beautiful negativity. But regardless of the hate and critics, the Grammy-winning Bruno mars duo was never going to fail. The music video has over 400 million views on YouTube to date.

Your Power – Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish has been on the roll ever since she entered the music industry. Her debut album, “When we All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”, released in 2017, was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. “Lovely” and “Bad Guy” are two of her most successful songs with over one billion views on YouTube. Her recent release “No Time To Die”, a theme song from the James Bond movie with same title became a massive success and she is back again with a new song “Your Power”. She calls out the people who abuse their power. She implies the men who take advantage of younger people in the entertainment industry through the lyrics.
