Basically, Billboard is a part of the American Media Rights Company (MRC), which is now known as MRC Media & Info. MRC itself is a diversified global entertainment company.

Billboard Music Awards 2020 Date

Dick Clark Productions and NBC disclosed the new date for the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, and they announced that the company had set a new date for Awards on Wednesday, 14 Oct, at 8 P.M. Entertainment Tonight (ET) will go live for this show, with the sponsorship of NBC. Dick Clark produces Billboard Music Awards every year, and the 2020 Billboard Music Award will also be produced by Dick Clark Production this year.

Formerly, the “2020 Billboard Music Awards” show was planned to air live on NBC on the 29 April, from Las Vegas; unfortunately, the pandemic induced a complete lockdown, and the show was finally aired on 15 Oct 2020 at 5:45AM.

Billboard Music Awards 2020 Hosts

Like the previous two years, Kelly Clarkson is again selected to host this show for 2020. Clarkson is selected for a third time successively for the hosting of the tremendously popular music award show, picked uncontested by the authorities of the show.

Billboard Music Awards 2019

The World famous Billboard Music Awards 2019 was aired on 1st May of 2019, which won the night viewership against the Big 4 network competition. The show got an average rating of 2.1 for adults aged 18-49, while it had 8 million viewers. It was top-rated in-season Wednesday in 18-49, since 7th of December, 2016, while excluding Olympics the Nielsen Media Research rated it in “live plus same day.”

Dick Clark Production is the largest production company in America and creators of entertainment shows which are aired live on television, such as American Music Awards show, Billboard Music Awards event, Academy of Country Music Awards event, Golden Globe Award. DCP organizes all these world popular shows. Moreover, it organizes weekly television programs like “So You Think You Can Dance.” It has been more than sixty years that DCP is hosting such types of entertainment and ranking shows, including many awards winning shows, historical shows, special events, live performances, and legendary events.

Billboard Music Awards selects its nominees and winners based on pure fan interactions, having music albums and digital sales of songs, streaming, radio airplay of albums, Billboard and its data collecting partners monitor everything in order to nominate winners for awards. Domination by Hip-hop artists

In Billboard Music Awards 2019, hip-hop artists dominated the award portion in the evening; most of the awards were nominated to hip-hop artists. Cardi B led the entire list of nominees, by getting nominated 21 times, and got awards in 19 categories. She was among the most enthusiastic artists while receiving multiple awards. 

Winner of the Year

Drake won the title for Winner of the Year 2019, and he made history that night. He was awarded for top artist of the year in Billboard Music Awards 2019. 

Taylor Swift won 27 awards, and she was an American singer who created a winning history in the music industry. She was surpassed as the most decorated Billboard Music Award winner.

In top artist awards, Ariana Grande won second place, Post Malone won third place, and Travis Scott won fourth place in Billboard Music Award show 2019. While the winner for the award for Top New Artist was nominated to Juice WRLD, Bazzi acquired second place in this award session. Lil Baby, Dua Lipa, and Ella Mai won awards for top new artists in the year.

 Ariana Grande was the winner of the Billboard Chart Achievement Award with Dan+ Shay coming in second. Drake, Lady Gaga, and Bradley Cooper were also nominated for Chart Achievement awards. Drake won the award for a top male artist in 2019 year. Ariana Grande won the first award in the category of top female artists. While the top duo group music award was nominated to the BTS group, Dan + Shay won second place, and Imagine Dragons won third place in this category. Drake won first place and was the winner for Top Hot 100 artists with Cardi B as the runner up. Drake was also nominated for Top streaming songs artist and Top sales song artist at the first position. Lady Gaga won an award for topmost sales artists. 

 The Chainsmokers were awarded first place award for Top Dance and Electronic artists in the country. Calvin Harris won the second-best award, and Kygo won third place in this category. Top rap artist award was awarded to Drake, while Cardi B and Juice WRLD coming in second and third place.

Special Appearances

The Billboard Music Awards 2019 was aired live from the famous MGM Arena located within Las Vegas. Kelly Brianne Clarkson hosted the event and made it extraordinary and remarkable for the whole audience. She broke the beautiful night performing one of her new songs from UglyDolls, “Broken and Beautiful.” Then Taylor Swift kicked off this evening with an eccentric live debut of her song “Me! Featuring Panic,” and then an image of an umbrella was formed on the whole audience. Then Mariah Carey accepted the award for 2019 Icon graciously after her medley performance on her most excellent hit song, “Icon? I really don’t think of myself in that way”.

The performances from Taylor Swift, BTS, Halsey, the Jonas Brothers, and the elusive chanteuse Mariah Cary delivered a lot of fun on the stage of the show. An exciting red carpet was decorated for all these special artists.  

Final Thoughts 

Billboard Music Awards happen once a year and it’s one of the biggest music awards shows in the world. Sure! the hype for Awards in 2020 was less than that of 2019 due to pandemics and everything going around the world. After a few postpones, the event finally happened and Post Malone stole the show with his performance along with 16 nominations and 9 wins from different genres.
